One particular thing that annoys me about Neo-Conservativism is this so called “family values” being forced down one’s throat. Why do I need the government or my fellow “conservatives” to tell me what a “family value” is? Do YOU believe that a government should dictate what a “family value” is or should it be up to the individual?
Having as many kids as I can pop out, my husband and I working 16 hours a day while the kids are at day care and bible school, never spending quality time with the husband and kids — while the kids go absolutely nuts without having parents around unless they are with a paddle with spikes on it, and then the kids becoming mentally ill and start committing crimes and/or becoming just as depressed, bitter and as neurotic at their parents just to rinse and repeat into future generations? All under the guise of being a “good Christian” and going to church two times a week? Apparently, this is why the so called “conservatives” like to keep the Mexicans here illegally (work hard – have family values)? Misery loves company? Naw. That’s not for me, folks. And that’s not “pre-Gingrich” Conservatism either. That’s living miserably and expecting everyone to fall into the dirty puddle with you – making the same stupid mistakes in life.
The Radical Conservatives have hijacked Conservatism. What a family value is, should always be protected under the first amendment.
What I find particularly weird is that some people who call themselves “family-oriented” have the most jacked-up and dysfunctional family. The thing is that they are clever enough to hide it well. They attend all these superficial “family functions” just to be there – just to say they were there – just to say that they “value the family”. However, being physically there at a family gathering and being emotionally there in peace and in love are two totally different things.
Call me a liberal. But I don’t owe homage to anybody or anything. Respect is earned, in my book. And if you are in a toxic relationship and don’t distance yourself from it, you’re just as stupid as the abuser. Of course, “what is toxic” is up to individual interpretation.
I’d like to think that we spend our precious time with those who truly (not love), but like us and make us feel good and special in our own skins. Those people you can truly be yourselves around. Those are the people that I like to pal around with.
The mania and obsession revolved around Palin is literally endless, and I don’t have anywhere near the time to address any more of it. The above alone should give you a clue that Obamessiah ain’t the only one people are putting on brown shirts over…
“She does not represent my views at all, and I never planned on voting for that ticket to begin with, but I seriously found myself feeling sorry for her when I watched her Couric interview. The other interviews were bad enough, even the Hannity softball one, but OMG, watching her just makes me feel like you do when a little kid is in a school play and completely forgets his lines and you just feel sorry for him and you almost want to reach out and help him somehow, but you can’t.
Whatever overconfidence and bravado this individual was able to display in the beginning has melted into a confused deer-in-the-headlights.
I personally hope she stays on the ticket, as she is absolute gift for the Obama/Biden ticket, which has been my opinion since she was chosen”. — Julia O
—> Because she’s pretty and the Right think with their genitalia. Isn’t voting for someone just because they’re hot and have a vajayjay, objectifying women as in…. *gasps* sexism?
Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. “She asked the library how she could go about banning books,” he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. “The librarian was aghast.” That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn’t be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving “full support” to the mayor.
—> Because she’s ignorant about her own country and the world around her. The radicals can relate to this frightening level of dumb as exemplified below:
—> Because she’s pro-life, she loves to kill defenseless and innocent animals just for the sake of the kill. Because she’s pro-life and risked “her baby’s” own life as evident here. Because she’s pro-life and supports a war based of false pretences.
And if you think it’s jealousy that vetted out Governer Sarah Palin, you might want to read this before you rush to judge. Neocons have an amazing ability to conveniently confuse dissent with jealousy as a means to deal with the fact that their Messiah is less than poifect.
Palin’s wardrobe still continues to be brought up by both the Right and the Left. I never even looked deeply into all that drama as I really didn’t care about it. Usually, I’ll go to factcheck.org or politifact.com to see who’s telling the truth and who’s not to get the FACTS versus the RUMORS. But this issue was too trivial for me to bother. Additionally, I just assumed that the RNC/GOP wanted to win so badly that they had to do something to make her look good to counteract her horrible reputation (that had nothing to do with the “liberal media”). So, in a way, I found it justified.
BUT!
Yes, there’s a but.
The only thing that bothered me about Palin’s $145820008875641.00 wardrobe is the fact that she was a woman who claimed to be representing the *middle class average Joe’s*. Am I correct with this assumption? I found it a bit odd that one who is trying to desperately reach to our level to be wearing outfits that the average man in the street couldn’t even begin to afford to wear. One pair of her shoes alone cost more than what a married couple has in their entire closet. Her folksy speak was empty – despite how horny she made many American conservatives feel.
If Palin hadn’t been incessantly claiming to be “sympathetic” to the working class Americans, her wardrobe would be absolutely NO issue for me AT ALL. Period.
Next, she purchased her clothes where the Hollywood and Washington ELITES buy their clothes. Isn’t that ironic considering that on the campaign trail she was railing against those very same *elites*?
What about Hillary Clinton? Despite her many flaws (that had nothing to do with the conservative media), she never went on and on and on and on ad nauseam pretending to be every Joe’s BFF. Look at her wardrobe. She practically wore the same clothes (different color) every time we saw her. Hillary didn’t have the best fashion or the best style. But she represented the middle class better and more efficiently than Palin who unintentionally made it clear that she was above American Joe’s, above American people who lived in the “Anti-American parts” or “big towns and cities” of the US, and above American ethics.
At the end of the day, who are the REAL elitists? Who are the real fiscal conservatives?
Note:For those who don’t want to read this whole diatribe, please scroll all the way to the bottom of this post and address my comments and questions regarding the apparent “jealously” of Gov. Sarah Palin. Thanks.
—> This just in. One of 58878500025568 blogs that swear all American liberals are jealous of Sarah Palin are a bit confused.
Radical Conservatives Confuse Dissent with Jealousy
Let’s see, she did a two-day interview with Matt Lauer, a two-day interview with Wolf Blitzer, a three-day interview with Greta Van Susteran, and is having her door blown down by Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Walters, and Larry King as well.
In fact; even profound writers like Claire Guehenno cannot seem to shut up about Gov. Palin. Gee, I wonder why.
The oppressed, modern-day liberal women are terrified that a conservative woman can be accomplished.
How exactly am I “oppressed”? The last time that I checked I was living in the United States of America where one is FREE to LIVE and DO as they PLEASE and make choices that fulfils them. I am looking at my passport right now, and I swear it doesn’t say “Saudi Arabia”. It says, “USA” on it.
Just about every conservative blog I run across, there are a few posts that are showing how the only reason a Republican wasn’t elected this time around was because the 66,882,230 Americans that voted for Obama were just doing so because they are jealous of Sarah Palin’s success. Because Sarah Palin “has got it all”.
Define “having it all?” (And please leave out personal choices because anybody can make a choice!).
Why do so many liberal men and women hate Bush (you have been around for the last 8 years, right?), why do so many liberals hate Cheney, McCain?
Wake up you brain-dead Neocons! Where the hell were you when thousands of books have been written to criticize Bush, when many movies were made to embarrass him, when many people protested in the streets about the war, when just about all the networks ridiculed him (even Republican talk-radio if you can imagine that), bashed him unashamedly, comedians picked him apart mercilessly, when all we heard for 8 years were complaints made by Americans and the rest of the world. Eight long years of Bush to the point where he now has a 23% APPROVAL RATING! Did you hear that? Yes, a 23% APPROVAL RATING. THAT IS A ***HISTORICAL LOW***.
What did you honestly think would happen this election? Seriously.
Why do so many conservatives hate Obama? You don’t think he’s an accomplished man? If you knew where he came from and his struggle to get where he is today, YOU’D BE JEALOUS! Not us. YOU. He has achieved much more depth in his lifetime than Palin can ever dream of. Even Hillary Clinton has achieved way much more than Palin. But of course, you filter out anything that could ever possibly put Obama and Hillary in a positive light recognizing them for what good they have done instead of obsessing about the “bad” which are mostly conspiracy theories and fabricated stories revolved around hyperbole and paranoia.
Can’t you guys get your head out of your collective asses for just one moment and accept that fact that people’s views about candidates have more to do with their BELIEFS and the ECONOMY than a candidate’s personal achievements, personal choices or personal life? Were you really expecting liberals like me to be a traitor to our own values and convert to Team Palin just because she has nice legs and was a pro-life governor?
We know for a fact that neocons hate Hollywood TV and movie stars, we also know that you people HATE the 78% of American Jews (the richest and most successful people in America) who voted for Obama. That, my friends, can easily be attributed to j-e-a-l-o-u-s-y. But you guys say it’s because Hollywood is Liberal and they are freaks that make arses out of themselves. Well, we don’t like Palin because she’s a Radical Right-wingnut that made her own party (even during the campaign) criticize her.
Do you wingnuts not realize how vulnerable you make yourselves in saying that Obama fans are jealous of Palin? For the record, we make fun of her and criticize her because she makes a grand international fool out of herself on a daily basis. The entire world is laughing at her. You’re too busy calling Obama an Arab terrorist Hilter-apologizing NeoNationalSocialist baby-killer to even have the time to find out what an embarrassment Palin is to the US in the SAME WAY that Bush was!
And men feel the same way American women feel about Palin.
This jealousy card has been over-used. You have hit rock bottom. You people make it like the Messiah, Sarah Palin is the first woman to have ever been accomplished? Once you find liberal woman jealous of the billions and billions of women who have made something out of themselves, then you’ll have a case. Right now, you guys are just looking desperate. And keep in mind, it was the PROGRESSIVES that have taken women where they are today. Since when are Republicans all of the sudden worried about “feminism”?
Maybe you guys cannot handle the fact that a black man can be an accomplished man in the United States?
Seriously people, you’re scraping a bottomless barrel here….
What I would Looooooooooooooooooooove to see is a Liberal woman one day go up against a conservative male candidate in a future election that is a knock-out (looks are the only thing that Palin has over Hillary). You betcha. Oooooh, we libs would have so much fun with you guys. We’ll keep you busy at what you do best: graspin’ for straws and scrapin’ barrels.
Losers.
QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS FROM CURIOUS AMERICAN FEMALE LIBERALS
1) How is it humanly possible for someone to hate another for the choices that they make? Most of these successes you speak of are simply choices that ANYONE can make.
And based on what the neocons have written, that makes me quite a success myself if you think that I have practised my choices and am living life the way I want to. I am maybe not the happiest person in the whole world, but I am content with my life. And I wouldn’t trade places with anyone.
2) You mention that liberal women are oppressed. How is that?
3) What have you got to say to all the men who criticized Palin?
4) Why did liberal men and woman hate Bush if simply dissent is equated to jealousy?
5) With Bush’s approval rating being at a historical low of 23%, what did you think was going to happen this election?
6) If you are as old as I am, you’ll know that in harsh economic times, people are more compelled to vote Democrat.
7) Other than what negativity you have heard surrounding Obama, if you know his past – seeing where he came from and where he is now is more of a jump compared to Palin by a long shot. He is a successful man.
Do you think it’s just that conservatism hates to think that a black man can be accomplished?
8 ) The majority of liberals are Jews. 78% of Jews voted for Obama over Palin. If you know anything about American Jews, they are the richest, best looking, most successful, law abiding and decent people in America. Do you think that you’re just projecting and just jealous of American Jews and accomplished blacks?
9) It is the progressives that have fought for equal rights for women. Why are you criticizing them now?
10) Since when are Republicans concerned (all of the sudden, mind you) about Feminism and Sexism?
11) In record history, there has never been more hype and fanaticism over a VP candidate. Palin is your, “The One” – she is your “The Messiah”.
12) Here’s the true acid test. I’d love to see in a future election a Republican male against a HOT Liberal female. Then, we shall see who the true feminists are.
13) Quite obviously, Sarah is not the first ever accomplished woman in the history of the world. Can you think of any other woman that is equally – if not more accomplished than Palin that liberals have also attacked?
14) Aren’t you guys acting like the “liberal media” by making false accusations about Americans that you’ve never met – twisting, fabricating, exaggerating and all that jazz? You sound just like the Americanophobes that I rail against in my blog.
15) Let’s see. You’re sticking up for 1 female and bashing an estimated 40 million American female Obama voters. It appears to me that you hate women considering the Math. Could you perhaps be a misogynist?
So, exactly how are me and my female liberal compatriots “jealous”?
Team Blue is constantly being accused of just liking Obama for the sake of it, not knowing who he is, what he stands for, and apparently we just like him because we like to chant, “Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama,”. Nothing more. Supposedly Obama is some kind of Messiah who will save us and that’s all we know. “Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, Change, — yep – that’s all we chant. We don’t know what it means. We just say it. It sounds good. It’s the cool and hip thing to do. We liberals never paid attention to Obama/Biden’s website regarding the issues. We never read about either one of them. We just listened to Keith Olbermann on MSNBC and chanted “Yeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, baby, yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah”. That’s where we got all of our information. We were brainwashed to believe that Barack Obama would deliver SUNSHINE AND HAPPINESS to the US.
Simply put, all liberals voted for Obama because well, jus’ cuz. Fer notin’ oder dan votin’ fer da man jus’ cuz, sup yo?!
From having read numerous conservative blogs, it appears to be that even mainstream conservatives think that everyone is a Republican at heart, but those who say they aren’t, are either
Sexist or
Jealous of Sarah Palin
or in denial of their true inborn god-given conservative nature.
Well, guess what, everybody? I am a jealous sexist because I voted for Barack Obama thinking that he would give me sunshine and happiness and some jus’ cuz!
“Sarah Palin is everything these elite feminists aren’t. Happily married, good looking, good looking husband, big family, pro-life, apparently well adjusted, folksy, hunter gal, who apparently loves being a woman and a mother. On top of that, she could whip most of these liberal males. Doesn’t get anymore threatening than that to the kool-aid sipping crowd.” – Tex Taylor
1) Happily Married? Do you have proof that all Liberals are getting divorced or single? Just because a married couple are smiling and holding hands means that they are “happily married”? WTF? Ever hear of the “nice” neighbor next door that is suddenly accused of murder? Damn, you wingnuts are naive as fuck! Keep sipping that kool-aid.
2) Jealous of good looks? Does this mean that all liberals are ugly? Really? And for someone to be jealous of someone’s looks is pretty damn lame. It is a lame that only the right is capable of. To have even said that alone shows the level of superficial lows these people reach. Keep sipping that kool-aid.
3) Big Family? Are you serious? How exactly does a big family make one a better person? Liberals only have one child? Do they not procreate? And what is wrong with having just one kid? I guess it’s Godless to have just one kid? Probably something that only commies do, I guess. I surely didn’t receive that memo yet…. In any event, why would one be jealous of a big family when it is easy and more fun to have condomless sex and make babies. That is the easiest and one of the most enjoyable activities there are. This is not something to be jealous of. ANYONE CAN FUCK, you dimwats. LOL Keep sipping that kool-aid.
4) Jealous of pro-lifers? You probably want to explain that one to me. How can liberals be jealous, once again, of a choice that is simple to make? Keep sipping that kool-aid.
5) Well adjusted? Liberals are all mentally ill? (Or do you just mean the 78% of the rich and successful Jews that voted for Obama?) We are jealous of this? Let’s just say that we only see what they show us. Not even the most professional and experienced psychologists can give accurate assessments to determine whether or not one is “well adjusted”. Some of the most functional and “confident” people in the world are sociopaths, psychopaths, or narcissists . This is common knowledge, but leave it to the Reds to be so ignorant and blindly patriotic toward one woman they think they know everything about. Even the Obama supporters don’t sink to that level of perversion and worship-like obsessive behavior. Keep sipping that kool-aid.
6) Jealous of Folksiness? Omg…. we are really scraping the bottom of the barrel here, aren’t we? Hon, for the record, I can say, “you betcha” too. Not very hard. Sorry. Nothing to be jealous of there, love. Keep sipping that kool-aid.
7) A hunter gal? I am supposed to be jealous of a PRO-LIFE HUNTER-GAL. (Isn’t that an oxymoron?) Again, this is a choice. It is humanly impossible to be jealous of a choice. LOL (Just when you think things couldn’t get weirder!) Keep sipping that kool-aid.
8 ) Love being a woman and a mother? So, this is to imply that all liberal women wish that they were men? And this means that liberal women who procreate hate being moms? For the record, those who LOVE being a mother actually spend time with their children – the last time I checked. They don’t leave them with someone else to raise while mom and dad carry on with their self-serving lives. And how the hell do you people know what Palin loves? Keep sipping that kool-aid.
9) She could whip most liberal males? How is this? How does being a liberal equate to being a wimp, exactly? Because Palin has a gun she can kick ass? Is this the “my daddy can beat up your daddy syndrome” that is often exhibited by junior high schoolers? Psst… People that fight with a gun against someone else’s fist are cheating. Only a Republican can be so cowardly. I’ll see a REAL woman fight when the game is fair. I’ll see a REAL woman fight gun to gun or fist to fist. And why? The party of the elite and self-righteous bible-thumpers are putting an emphasis on the infantile “whipping ass”? Since when is this an achievement or something to be proud of? See, this is the level you imps lower yourselves to. The Christian pro-lifers just love violence so much, don’t they? What is up with that? Why is being violent something to boast about? A classic inferiority complex is what you people have that you must resort to violent words and behaviorisms to get your messages across. Keep sipping that kool-aid.
The bottom of the barrel is no more. You’ve scraped it all out. This is why you people have the reputation that you do. You are an embarrassment to America. You give us all a bad name. And you give your party a bad name. Your “values” are nothing short of delusions of grandeur and infantile short man syndrome and divisiveness.
To my readers: Just go look at all the conservative blogs out there. They all say the exact same thing. Same thing, but different wording written by a different author. Some of them probably even copy and paste. I cannot even begin to count how many times I have read the above. Literally on every RED blog. Go see for yourself.
The knee-jerk reactions to dissent are amusing to me. Lack of originality. Same regurgitated talking points.
In any event, I responded to this person even though he was preaching to the general audience who don’t oooooh and aaaaaaah THE Great Messiah Palin. I am a member of that audience. So, I found his comments quite personal (as a woman myself) and offensive and rightly so.
What is so very wrong with you conservatives??? I am genuinely curious! I really wish I could say that I was judging you all by your extremists, but extremists aren’t writing this drivel. Normal everyday mainstream Republicans are writing this.
This is what made me come to the conclusion that the Messiah for the Reds is Sarah Palin. She can do no wrong. She’s perfect. You know, the woman that looks like a woman, but can do boy-things too.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I used to play with toy cars when I was a little girl. I wonder if I’ve got a shot at becoming a VEEP someday. Or even prez. Oh yeah, and I beat my husband at arm-wrestling! Oh wow. Are horny conservatives now going to show up at my door step? Are they going to believe everything I say just because I am all woman who is capable of doing manly jobs? I can use an electric drill really well. But yannoooooo, I just don’t have it in me to kill animals just for the sake of the kill to feel better about myself or to release tension. As a pro-choicer, you’d think I’d like to see God’s creations die. But no. The pro-lifers are into that. They like to attack the defenseless. Not because they’ve been raped or at high risk of dying during pregnancy, but just for the thrill of the kill to fill a void in their empty lives. Cowardly. If you’re going to eat the animal, that’s one thing. But for the sake of the kill? Cowardly. Ungodly. Hypocritical. Murderer.
Newsflash: Women that are 100% Estrogen-Audrey Hepburn, doll-like-cross-your-legs-sitting-quietly, barefoot, and prego are R-A-R-E. Where are they? I’ve been alive for 40 years, and I just can’t find them. What I DO find everywhere around me are married and working women with children in daycare where their child calls their child molesters “caretakers”, “mommy”. And these same “parents” and the generation before me is wondering why kids behave so differently (for a lack of a better term) these days.
And by the way, since when are the conservatives worried about Feminism??? We haven’t ever heard a peep out of them until the extremist right-winger divisive, clueless and cowardly Palin arrived on the scene. Now, all liberals are sexist and jealous. Never mind the fact that it was the effort of the PROGRESSIVES that got women where they are today.
Women are limitless as to what they can do nowadays. If they have a dream and the will, they can grab it as any man can too. Palin is just but one grain of sand among the gazillions of women who are “accomplished, beautiful, family-oriented, have testosterone, and are successful” or whatever Tex says that defines a “real woman”. And I betcha that for every Sarah Palin out there, there are just as many (if not more) that are happier, more successful, and better off overall. Sarah Palin is not special. She’s just another power-hungry wannabe.
See, I don’t particularly find Palin to be this “feminine-role-model-woman” the Reds are making her out to be. That is just my opinion. And it’s not because I am jealous.
They are just screaming, “Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA,”.
Honestly, I think that Laura Bush is feminine. She is also successful. So, If I’m going to be so insecure to choose someone to be jealous of, I’ll pick Laura Bush or Michelle Obama. Michelle is gorgeous, has two beautiful children, and is VERY accomplished. So, yeah… I’ll be jealous of them. So, thanks but no thanks to yah for that Palintology sales pitch that leads to nowhere.
Like I had mentioned earlier in my reply, feeling like you’re a success and/or accomplished is SUBJECTIVE. We are compared by conservatives in the most superficial of terms. You can even be a single woman working a 9-5 job and be damn happy and feel good about yourself. That is enough for some people. To be jealous of someone else means to feel worthless and insecure deep down inside. And according to Tex and all other Palin supporters, every liberal is such.
So, basically you are not a “real woman” if you don’t support Sarah Palin. Yep. That goes for the men too. I will tell my liberal husband tonight when he comes home from work that he is jealous of Palin just so that he knows. I’d hate for him to be uninformed. Wait ’till I tell him that Palin can “kick his ass” too. I am sure he’ll reach for the blades and start cutting himself into a deeply depressed funk.
To those of you out there that think like Tex… Sorry, but I think I’ll decide for myself what makes me feel good and accomplished. I hardly need someone who masturbates over Palin’s sound bites and Pentacostal hair-dos every night to tell me how I am supposed to feel about myself based on my political beliefs.
See, this is why you people lost the election. You are the ones who divide the US and you’re the proud creators of the “us vs them” mentality. You started it. And the McCain campaign just perfected it – hence the loss.
Surely some on the Left will call you racist for not supporting Obama and resort to condescending attacks across the aisle, but there’s no match to the violent, bully-like and elitist nature of the Reds. Yes, you guys are elitist too. You think that you are better than everyone else and try to recruit people into your God-fearing morally superior ideologies and every other bright-red belief that you have.
You are the party of hypocrites and walking self-contradictions. You have a blind eye to the flaws and corruption within your own party. You sugar-coat what you know to be wrong and immoral. You see the world through rose-colored glasses and tell everyone that you’re positive and happy. You filter what you read and watch on the news solely to suit your own agendas.
What is ironic about all this is that today I posted (several hours ago) about the resentment the Republicans have for American Jews, and in this post, I made mention of the jealousy that they have toward their nature of being the hardest working most successful group of people out there (and they’re liberals!). Read that post to find out why. And to add to the list of how conservatives are jealous of Jewish Liberals….
Let’s see… They are jealous because
Liberals make education a priority
Liberals are more creative, free-thinking, curious, and have the capability to think beyond 1 dimension
There are significantly less teenage pregnancies among Liberals
Liberals make the most money in the country
Liberals are more adventurous in bed
Liberals like to be FREE to decide whether to believe in God or not
Liberals would like to be FREE to use a vibrator in Alabama
Liberals would like to be FREE to marry someone of the same sex and adopt
Liberals aren’t afraid of their own bodies and aren’t sexually repressed
Liberals take better care of their bodies
Liberals have a sense of humor
Liberals like to take notice that America isn’t the only country out there and appreciate other cultures, languages, and people that are different
Liberals prefer the separation of church and state
Liberals prioritize happiness and FREEDOM to be themselves over succumbing to “societal norms”
Liberals make the best athletes
Liberals dance better, and know how to have a good time
The very last person in the world we’d think would be crying about censorship after having TRIED to ban several innocuous books from a library is now crying us all a river…
Gov. Sarah Palin said she fears her First Amendment rights may be threatened by “attacks” from reporters who suggest she is engaging in a negative campaign against Barack Obama.
[Snip!]
“If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations,” Palin told host Chris Plante, “then I don’t know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.”
The future of America is that should Palin become POTUS, our free speech WILL be taken away because this wussy can’t take any form of criticism whatsoever, and every time she screws up, she conveniently blames the “evil liberal media” so that she doesn’t have to look inward and own up to her own shortcomings.
“It’s sort of perplexing to me, because I’m a practical person and plainspoken also, but just cutting to the chase and calling things like I see them, just like most Americans. But this has not left a bitter taste in my mouth, the bitter shots taken by the mainstream media and by some of the elitism there in Washington,” Palin said.
*sighs* Sweatpea? Calling you out on your blatant lies, hypocrisies, ignorance, and stupidity is not elitist. (And psst… if you’re not a Washington Elitist, your wardrobe shouldn’t be more expensive than my house!) In fact, it mirrors your very own qualities. The media is practical, plain-spoken, cutting to the chase, and calling things as THEY see them just like most Americans. You DO realize that the 1st Amendment protects dissent, right?
The 1st Amendment, Ms. Sarah… shall we spell it out for you? Do you have a pen and a piece of paper handy?
The 1st Amendment addresses what the government cannot do:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Clearly the position of VP is not meant for the squeamish thin-skinned variety of Sarah Palin. She’s too weak. She boasts ad nauseam about the “straight-talker” that she is, yet she cannot handle straight talk back. And she’s not even a “straight talker” anyway as we keep seeing her time after time skirting and dancing around simple questions asked. She is a coward. She is a weak woman who is bringing all women down to the 19th century. She wants to be coddled, and women aren’t coddled any more. Women fought long and hard to get where they are. Modern women are tough and can handle what men can tolerate in any career possible. Palin proves to be a weak link and not the true strong feminine woman that her minions are fooled into thinking she is.
So, it’s not just Palin being weak, ignorant, and mildly retarded herself, but she’s also a hypocrite.
Look.
All the other candidates are taking their criticisms very well. NO exceptions should be made for her because she’s female. She is no princess – although seemingly spoiled rotten (but that’s beside the point). As much as I dislike Bush, he took criticism very well and even had a self-deprecating sense of humor. He didn’t take even himself seriously at times and could actually laugh at himself along with the First TRUELady, Laura Bush. If ya can’t take the heat, get outa the kitchen. And Bush stayed in the kitchen because he could handle it. I mean, damn! Look how mature McCain is being about endorsing Barack Obama! Whoa!
Psst. When something doesn’t go your way, instead of looking inward at the bad choices that you’ve made and owning up to them, take the easy way out: Blame the Dems and the media. The Neo-Conservative Republicans have mastered this like no other.
To hear up close and personal what Palin’s sympathy cries sound like, watch this video.
Returning back to Palin’s hypocrisy…. Let me remind my readers again that the same advice she gave Ms. Hillary Clinton, she cannot take herself.
I am embarrassed for Sarah Palin. Does anyone else feel the same?
…asks hurt and offended Sarah Palin regarding the questions that Katie Couric asked her. The reason why Ms. Palin dodged and danced around every question asked was (according to “Pro-American” Sarah Palin herself) because they were questions that “didn’t matter” and because she felt threatened by the “liberal media”. Regarding the question, “What newspapers do you read?“: She then goes on saying that if she named a certain newspaper that she read, that she’d be mocked for that. The “straight talker” also blamed her inability to answer any questions based on the fact that she is not a part of the “Washington Elite”.
Sarah Palin is very sensitive to criticism.
Sarah Palin says her faith has been mocked by the media. Awww….. Won’t anyone give that poor woman a break?
But hey. Hold it right there, Ms. Palin, while you tell the whole world that the “gotcha journalism” just gotcha: Aren’t you the same person who told Hillary Clinton to get a grip and stop whining about the criticism that revolved around her?
If you want to talk about “flip-flopping” on the issues, one must try this for size:
How about this quote from 2007?
Nor is it snobbish, let alone sexist, to express doubts about someone who, as late as March 2007, could tell Alaska Business Monthly, “I’ve been so focused on state government, I haven’t really focused much on the war in Iraq. I heard on the news about the new deployments, and while I support our president, Condoleezza Rice and the administration, I want to know that we have an exit plan in place.” This statement deserves to be called mindless, because, first, it is made up of stale and received and overheard bits and bobs from everyday media babble and, second, because you cannot really coherently say that you support both the administration and an “exit plan.”
Ya gotta love her.
Read more Scarahpalinisms here. Oh wait. It’s from the “liberal media”, so it’s all a lie.
And ya gotta love the GOP. Every time something doesn’t go just their way, they blame it on the “liberal media”. Hey, it’s a great scapegoat!
By the way, aren’t the Neo-conservatives supposed to be the party of “personal responsibility”? Hmm…
On a lighter note, this is the funniest damn piece of comedy that I’ve seen in a long time: (See it in full screen here.)
Note to readers:By my mere mentioning of the horrible GOPtarded ways, I am also secretly implying that all-things-liberal are the best ever, have a shiny clean record, never lie, never twist, and are the most righteous on the planet.
Call it a whine or a perceived whine or whatever. This is CLASSIC right wing whining!
And how un-woman-like of Winkmaster Sarah Palin, the Female Sancho Panza (the same person who railed against Hillary’s “whining”). Scarah Palin is so wrong on so many levels here:
She cannot tell the difference between supporters and protesters.
She clearly cannot take criticism.
She’s trying to stifle the “perceived protesters” in the name of Jesus“our men fought for your right to protest” bla bla bla.
By Powerhouse Palin’s own words…
I would hope at least that those protesters have the courage and the honor of thanking our veterans for giving them the right to protest.
Um Palin? Psst…
What does protesting have anything to do with not appreciating who gave us that right?
If they fought for us to have this freedom, why, then, can’t we use it?
You know how I feel? I don’t care if Barack Mohammed Hussein Obama and his friends are terrorists! Terrorist Barack Mohammed Hussein Obamawill be better than Palin/Bush any day of the week, my fellow prisoners. Bring it on! Our country needs a counterbalance to the extremism from the Bush administration over the last eight years. I’m fed up.
Did Barack Mohammed Hussein Obama lie about Bill Ayers?
Voters may differ in how they see Ayers, or how they see Obama’s interactions with him. We’re making no judgment calls on those matters. What we object to are the McCain-Palin campaign’s attempts to sway voters – in ads and on the stump – with false and misleading statements about the relationship, which was never very close. Obama never “lied” about this, just as he never bragged about it. The foundation they both worked with was hardly “radical.” And Ayers is more than a former “terrorist,” he’s also a well-known figure in the field of education.
Are three former Fannie Mae executives “economic advisers” to Obama?
No, claims made in a chain e-mail are false. Jim Johnson advised on non-economic matters but quit after a week. Franklin Raines says he took a “couple of calls” but was never an adviser. We find no evidence Tim Howard ever had a connection to the Obama campaign.
What about Barack Mohammed Hussein Obama’s association with ACORN and voter fraud?
I still have yet to hear how Barack Mohammed Hussein Obama is directly connected to voting fraud. Additionally, Republicans have no right to talk about cheating as they had blood on their hands in the 2000 election and in the 2008 election AGAIN where they are trying to keep those who have lost their homes from voting!
There’s another blogger’s opinion which I highly recommend. Please read “On Voter Fraud”. Especially if you think Voter Fraud is a Liberal phenomenon. Oh, and never mind the fact that McCain is ALSO ASSOCIATED WITH ACORN!
Speaking of Anti-Americanism, could Winkmaster SARAH PALIN, the Female Sancho Panza, be considered Anti-American based on this?
Ever wonder why the conservatives are so hush hush quiet about this?
It is this Pentecostal association that most concerns and confuses the McCain campaign. As Minnery makes clear, millions of Evangelicals have accepted Palin because of her membership in a Bible church. But there is no denying that mainstream Evangelicals and Pentecostals, while political allies on many social issues, have historically had significant tensions over theological differences. The Evangelicals’ swoon for Palin might fade if it turns out that she continues to hold fast to Pentecostal practices and beliefs.
So what exactly is Pentecostalism, and could it really pose a political problem for Palin? Here’s a brief TIME primer on the religious tradition that is such a touchy subject for the McCain campaign:
Rest the rest of this controversial story here. (2 pages)
Oh, that’s old news about McCain and his terms of endearment with The Keating Five… or is it? Yes, if you’re going to talk about Anti-American connections, this must be mentioned as well.
Looks like all these candidates have some “stuff”. It’s up to you to determine whether or not their “stuff” will effect how they will run the country or whether their “stuff” is valid or not. I would like to think that whether it be Palin, McCain, Barack Mohammed Hussein Obama, or Biden — that we judge THEM and not their “friends”. For some people, that will be a lot harder to do as both sides are getting pretty desperate, aren’t they? What a concept. Judging the actions of an actual candidate? Can the people do it? Can people even reach beyond the surface and see what is there aside from hairdos, accessories, height, weight, gender, race, accents, hobbies, lipstick, rumor, chain-emails etc? Can people venture the conservative opinion and the liberal opinion and think for themselves?
P.S. Just when you think things couldn’t get any weirder, Barack Mohammed Hussein Obama is suddenly being charged for having connections with Charles Manson.
P.S.S. Things are STILL getting weirder. Now, Barack Mohammed Hussein Obama is being charged by a grassroots organization for being a Kenyan – not a natural born US citizen despite proof of his being born in the USA.
To the Americanophobic moonbat knee-jerk reactionaries abroad, you now have a friend.
The Americanophobic Leftards in Canada, Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, and Australia will absolutely LOVE this video. Get out your pom poms and chant with your friend, Winkmaster Sarahcuda, the Female Sancho Panza.
Oct. 7, 2008 | “My government is my worst enemy. I’m going to fight them with any means at hand.”
This was former revolutionary terrorist Bill Ayers back in his old Weather Underground days, right? Imagine what Sarah Palin is going to do with this incendiary quote as she tears into Barack Obama this week.
Only one problem. The quote is from Joe Vogler, the raging anti-American who founded the Alaska Independence Party. Inconveniently for Palin, that’s the very same secessionist party that her husband, Todd, belonged to for seven years and that she sent a shout-out to as Alaska governor earlier this year. (“Keep up the good work,” Palin told AIP members. “And God bless you.”)
The AIP actually reminds me of the Americanophobic Canadian Action Party that is calling (unsuccessfully, mind you) for an independent Canada so that they don’t have to depend on the US any longer. I think the Canadian Action Party and the Alaskan Independence Party should merge. How convenient since they are so close to each other in proximity too. Not Russia-close, but you know what I mean. Their messages are similar:
The Canadian Action Party is, above all, a pro-Canadian party dedicated to the principle that Canada can best serve its citizens and the world by re-claiming and maintaining its political and economic sovereignty as an independent country.
It is opposed to the ascendancy of “corporate rule” and those aspects of unrestricted global investment that promote colonization of the world’s smaller powers and in Canada’s case its absorption by the United States of America.
Minus the heart-clenching, tear-jerking, human dignity bit (if you continue reading further), notice the similarities.
“I’m an Alaskan, not an American. I’ve got no use for America or her damned institutions.”
–Joe Vogler
Yep. You betcha.
Naturally, Sarah Palin and Joe Vogler aren’t your only friends in America.
I’d like to say that Bill Ayers is one of your friends as well, but I won’t. He’s not an Anti-American. He used to be, but he has cleaned himself up and has been doing good for America by way of charity projects and becoming a professor. He wants to fix what’s broken in America and I admire that. Better than the incessant whiners any day. (RE: ACORN: I want to know that Obama/Ayers are directly involved with encouraging voter fraud before I say anything, but that’s besides the point.) Ayers stayed in this country, after all, and did what he could to help after he rehabilitated. Americanophobes abroad would never think of helping a fallen American (obviously). Rather, they would step on them and mush them into the cement. But they like to call themselves, “tolerant”, “peace-loving”, and “considerate” all the time while patting their backs. I love the irony.
Now, I’d introduce you to Pastor Jeremiah Wright, but scratch that. Why? He believes in God, and Americanophobes loathe people who are religious. So, forget that.
Anyway…
There are more Americans that hate America than all those that hate America abroad combined. But see, you wouldn’t know that you have so many friends over here in the US because you know as much about the US as Americans know about the rest of the world. Because after all, Americanophobia IS based on ignorance and underdeveloped brains. You know, brains like this and this. Don’t matter how you sugar-coat it, bigotry IS bigotry. And bigotry stems from, once again, ignorance. DISCLAIMER:Before you people start foaming at the mouth, let’s not confuse being disgusted with America with Anti-Americanism because they are two different things.
Now, go on. Show Governer Sarah Palin your unwavering support, hold hands, and join together as you do whatever it is you do best i.e bullying innocent people and hating those that aren’t like you.
But wait a second!! Isn’t she supposed to be one of us – yanno, the relateable REAL type of folksy-folk? You betcha. *wink* I mean, don’t we just adore her because she’s so real? *wink* She’s so in touch with the average “Joe 6-pack”. *wink* At least the way I see it, being real doesn’t equate with Photoshop.
And whining is a Liberal phenomenon, isn’t it?
Are you listening to me, you NATION OF WHINERS?!?!
(Psst… If this makes you depressed, well…. there’s always a Palin cookie you can eat.)
Sarah Palin wants to run the United States, and possibly use McCain to help her out at times. She doesn’t even like McCain because a year ago, he really was a Maverick. He has liberal principles that even if he denies them now, it is too late for Sarah Palin. And it will be easy for Palin to run the states sitting on John’s face as he’ll do anything for her with the right wink or her signature cutsey mommy-dearest-smile.
If any of you had your eyes open the last 8 years, you know that it was Cheney who ran the US (especially in the orchestration of the Iraqi War) – not Bush. Bush was his puppet. Palin will be – not another Bush – but another Cheney. And that is worse. I’ve always thought Cheney was worse than Bush. Cheney is the most criminal-minded sinister man ever to be in the White House, in my opinion.
On November 4th, when people line up to vote, you are naive to think that people are actually voting for McCain for the Republican ticket. No. They are all voting for Palin. People still know deep down inside that McCain is too Liberal for the Republican Party.
In all actuality, the Neo-Conservatives do *NOT* like Mavericks. They like those who represent all of their values. Not a few, but ALL of them. All of these “…but we’re the mavericks!!!!” are really intended to sway the Independents and the middle-of-the-roaders. If people truly think that Palin is a maverick, they are not paying attention.
If people are buying that words such as
you betcha
*wink*
yah
darn right
comin’

We’re gonna shake it up
*wink*
yanno
doncha
we’re gonna put the government back on the side of the people

boring hockey mom stories (intelligent people don’t give a fuck how many ankle biters you have!)
*wink*

……cha
is her really “relating” to middle class America, please kill yourself now!
While I don’t agree with First Lady Laura Bush’s politics, I do find her to be a REAL lady. See, she has children too. She is the ultimate balance of a woman who is feminine and can work as hard and efficiently as a man. Hell, even Ann Coulter is more feminine than Palin. Did I just say that?
To me, Sarah Palin has a penis. I don’t see a woman. I see a bitter and pushy broad trying to take over while using softy young-people-talk to buy her way into the Oval scene.
Is it any wonder why the reporters are chasing Palin? Is it any wonder why there is obsession about this woman? If you are paying close attention to both sides of every story in the media, you will know that Palin has “stuff” out there that NEEDS to be laid on the table for the American people as done with Obama before Palin arrived on the scene.
I have heard over and over about
Obama’s so called “connections” with Muslim terrorists
Obama is a Muslim – therefore he must be a terrorist
Obama doesn’t have any experience
Obama’s pastor is an Anti-American white-hater, so Obama must be one too
Obama’s friends are all terrorists
Obama’s wife is an American hater
Obama didn’t put his hand on his heart during the pledge of allegiance
Obama said there were 57 states (that was a joke, by the way)
………….all this courtesy of the American media by way of FOX NEWS!! And the reporters NEVER let it go.
OK?
Now, it’s Palin’s turn. We want to see what trees she’s been rubbing her nose against all these years too!
And the fact still remains that in every single one of her interviews, she has struggled, stumbled, and only rarely answered the questions asked. Blaming her ineptitude on the Liberal Media is a cop out. Blaming her is harder to do.
Our Palin was given another chance last night in the debates, and all I heard was her pre-packaged talking points:
We’re gonna put the government back on the side of the people
*wink*
We are mavericks
*wink*
Alaska’s the biggest producer of energy
doncha
I cut taxes in Alaska
betcha
Lemme tell you what I did in Alaska……. (even though the answer had nothing to do with the question!)
*wink*
Ya
*wink*
cha
*wink*
betcha
darn right
I’m so cute
All of you die-hard Republicans know just as well as I do that Katie Couric was asking not trick questions, but very basic ones looking for clarification on statements that Palin has been making for the last 5 weeks. There were no camera tricks in ANY of her interviews, her words were not photoshopped , everything was raw. Sorry. Palin looked like a fool. The Liberal media did *NOT* tweak or twist ANY of her interviews. And even the time it was said that the camera “messed up”, that too was proven to be a big fat lie and the result of restless, sweaty-palmed neo-cons grasping at lipsticks straws. You don’t even need to watch the interviews. You can get access to all of these scrips online. And you will see what many of us have. Palin does not answer questions. And when Palin stood up from her chair, she left a puddle of sweat behind her.
I don’t think we Liberals would be as harsh if she weren’t touting her “STRAIGHT TALK EXPRESS” balogna. One thing I have learned the most about Palin is that she is *NOT* a “straight-talker” by ANY stretch of the term. She has butchered what it means to be direct.
“…she got out alive, though there were white-knuckle moments along the way: questions that were answered with painfully obvious talking points that betrayed scant knowledge of the issue at hand and sometimes little relevance to the question that had been asked.”
[Snip!]
On at least 10 occasions, Palin gave answers that were nonspecific, completely generic, pivoted away from the question at hand, or simply ignored it: on global warming, an Iraq exit strategy, Iran and Pakistan, Iranian diplomacy, Israel-Palestine (and a follow-up), the nuclear trigger, interventionism, Cheney’s vice presidency and her own greatest weakness.
Additionally, the very fact that she felt the need to repeat her lines over and over and over again during the debate was weak. It spoke volumes for me, at least. Repeating lines to compensate for lack of substance, indeed. And she admitted it herself in saying the following in the beginning of the debate:
“…And I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but I’m going to talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record also…”
If we hadn’t just lived through a week in which news channels played some of Palin’s most embarrassing interview moments over and over again, I really think the story tonight would have been how badly she did in the debate. But because expectation levels were so low, she necessarily exceeded them. She did better than an average hockey mom plucked off the street would have, and therefore, we’re supposed to believe that she “held her own.”
But think about this. If a member of Congress had been selected at random and put on stage with no prep time at all, would that person have done better than Sarah Palin did last night? The answer is almost surely yes. Palin’s understanding of the issues was clearly confined to a handful of (poorly) memorized talking points. She often had to change the subject because she couldn’t answer a question. She almost never responded directly to the points Biden was making, and showed no ability whatsoever to engage in actual spontaneous thought or argument.
Even her emotional instincts were suspect. She blindly opened the door to Biden’s response about his own personal tragedy, and when he choked up, she responded in a weirdly disconnected way by smiling and saying something about how mavericky John McCain is. It was an odd moment, to say the least.
One example (out of numerous) from the debate last night is when she was asked to talk about her weak points, and all she did was tout her imagined “strong” points. Do you guys remember that?
I’d like to think that the American people would like to see what is behind all that incessant winking.
Anyway, for a laugh or a tear, I leave you with the following:
McCain “said the other day that he would not meet potentially with the prime minister of Spain, because he . . . wasn’t sure whether they were aligned with us.”
This is a video where we see Palin just a wee bit nervous. As they say in Texas, she’s all hat and no cattle. Just like W.
Where is that “STRAIGHT TALK EXPRESS”, hockey mom lipstick on pigs, moose, cows, wolves, pitbulls and all that “confidence” that should be emanating from Mizz Pro-Life fist-swinging, power-house, bravado tell-it-like-it-is Palin? Perhaps she needs another session with her witch doctor, witch hunter, witch healer or whatever you call him? Sarah Palin’s obvious restlessness during her last 3 interviews kinda reminds me of the way GWB furrows his brow and extends it 5 inches away from his face when he talks. Except, he doesn’t wear lipstick.
Granted making a fool out of yourself in public is bipartisan. But watching dirty-dealing Republicans getting caught red-handed and screaming mercy is much more entertaining.
As the women of Wasilla know, however, the Palin doctrine rejects government hand-outs such as rape kits. During Palin’s mayoralty, women were stuck with the tab for their forensic exams, which range from $300 to $1,200. Palin refuses to perpetuate the endless cycle of rape-victim welfare. By paying for rape kits, the government would be rewarding people who break their abstinence-only pledges, which, as we all know, are sacred to the entire Palin family, especially Bristol.
Yes, already on baby #2…
But by charging rape victims, the government encourages women to keep their purity pledges to their fathers. Plus the expense, makes women think twice about crying wolf, thus helping to reduce Alaska’s per capita rape rate, which stands among the highest in our great nation.
Mrs. Palin (oops, I mean Mizz Palin because you are a die hard feminist) didn’t you say that you were, in your own words, “Putting Government Back on the Side of the People?”
Just don’t plan on getting battered or raped when these two become president because the “pro-women:” “pro-people” and “feminist” couple will most likely make you pay for your own rape kit (which can be between $300-$1,500) . If you are the victim of a violent crime, will you be okay under the new lower standards setting women back decades?
Now, WHO’S the sexist?
It only took the Palin/McCain ticket for me to realize that Bush wasn’t as bad as I had thought.
Oh and P.S. After you get raped come January, you will not only be forced to dish out a lot of money for your rape kit that is to aid in the criminalization of the rapist (god forbid), you will have to keep the baby too.
These are the questions to which I want answers. These are the central issues of a campaign, of an election to which Americans must pay attention. If rape victims have been charged for rape kits in municipalities, towns, cities and states around this country, we deserve to know why. But let’s not sell ourselves short. We deserve to know a lot more than that. The system is broken. Revealing a hole here and a scratch there unearths some superficial problems. If women are going to decide this election, we should do so based on the policies that impact women most, and which candidates will actually help women outside of politics. We can do this by asking the important questions:
Which set of candidates understands best how to remedy the culture of violence perpetuated against women in this nation and globally? Which set of candidates pro-actively creates policies that address the root causes of rape and sexual assault? Which set of candidates do we trust to raise the status of women in this country and work internationally to do the same? Which set of candidates’ legislative and leadership records reveal genuine attempts at fixing the problems their various constituents face when it comes to rape, sexual assault and other forms of violence against women?
“…rape kits also contain…emergency contraception…”
And this is against God’s rule. Dear women, don’t make God cry. Don’t get raped. It’s all within YOUR control.
This is why the National Organization for Women are now supporting Obama. Ironic, isn’t it? Voting against a FEMALE president for women’s issues???
On pay equity. Sen. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act, legislation to end wage discrimination against women.
On reproductive rights. Sen. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act, to strengthen access to contraception and reproductive health care, and prevent unwanted pregnancies. He strongly supports Roe v. Wade and will oppose any efforts to overturn it.
On violence against women. Sen. Obama supports the continued reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act — of which Sen. Joe Biden is the chief sponsor — as well as the Security and Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Act, which is legislation to provide legal, medical and financial support to victims of domestic violence.
On the Supreme Court. Sen. Obama opposed the nominations of George Bush’s extreme right-wing nominees to the Supreme Court, who have consistently ruled against women’s rights, …
Some keep going on and on about oooooh aaaaaaah Palin has five kids! And how amazing she is for this.
So…?
First of all, anybody can get laid. It’s really not that hard – especially when you’ve been taught abstinence at youth. Who doesn’t enjoy sex raw without a condom? It’s the best sex ever for both the man AND THE WOMAN!
Secondly, what is there to respect about a woman with children who has a full-time career? That is a matter of ENVY, if anything. As a matter of fact, it is easier to have someone else raise your kids for you while you are working. No job can be harder than raising kids raw.
Besides, this is what most moms have been doing for years in the US: working and leaving their kids here and there – most of the time with strangers or nannies. <— Are these people just as qualified as YOU? If parents don’t have money and accidentally had kids, I can understand the critical need to work, but some moms just don’t have that excuse.
Dear 21st Century, thank you once again, for belittling the jobs of real mothers whom are actually there for their children, hearing their first words, watching them grow, learn, experience and etc. After the kids have grown a bit, I can understand beginning or continuing a career, but while the kids are still infants?
Sorry, but there’s a HUGE difference between feminism and common sense.
Wasn’t it the Libtards that started the Feminist Movement, anyway?
…But the Enquirer was recently vindicated after its long-running pursuit of John Edwards, a former Democratic presidential candidate, ended with him admitting he had conducted an extra-marital affair with a filmmaker he had met in a bar in New York and later employed on his campaign.
Yes, and the far right had a field day over this if I remember correctly.
The Enquirer responded: “The National Enquirer’s coverage of a vicious war within Sarah Palin’s extended family includes several newsworthy revelations, including the resulting incredible charge of an affair plus details of family strife when the Governor’s daughter revealed her pregnancy.
“Following our John Edwards exclusives, our political reporting has obviously proven to be more detail-oriented than the McCain campaign’s vetting process. Despite the McCain camp’s attempts to control press coverage they find unfavorable, The Enquirer will continue to pursue news on both sides of the political spectrum.”
To change the subject a bit, I just recently happened upon a staunch Palin support site. And I found this sticker:
This sounds more like me, actually.
But what exactly is Palin saying that is “painful”? Examples, please….? Oh wait! You mean THIS kinda painful?
So many people have asked me about what I know about Sarah Palin in the
last 2 days that I decided to write something up . . .
Basically, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have only 2 things in
common: their gender and their good looks.
ABOUT SARAH PALIN
I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992.
Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a
first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her
father was my child’s favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a
first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more
City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the
residents of the city.
She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most popular
girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and
won’t vote for her can’t quit smiling when talking about her because
she is a “babe”.
It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She
kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents
for seven months.
She is “pro-life”. She recently gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby.
There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.
She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.
She is savvy. She doesn’t take positions; she just “puts things out
there” and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.
Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a
champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highly
sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his
work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or
so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their
major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything
like that of native Alaskans.
Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.
She’s smart.
Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000
(at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about
670,000 residents.
During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running
this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been
pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had
gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had
given rise to a recall campaign.
Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6
years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over
33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the
City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation
(1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a
regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she
promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they
benefited residents.
The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration
weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed
money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it
with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage
the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said
she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a
new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a
multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece
of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was
still in litigation 7 yrs later–to the delight of the lawyers
involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the
community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it
would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that
could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.
While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office
redecorated more than once.
These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.
As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus
in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will
make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she
proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.
In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she
recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while
she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today’s
surplus, borrow for needs.
She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas
or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren’t generated by
her or her staff. Ideas weren’t evaluated on their merits, but on the
basis of who proposed them.
While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected
City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from
the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents
rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin’s
attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew
her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the
Librarian are on her enemies list to this day.
Sarah complained about the “old boy’s club” when she first ran for
Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of “old boys”. Palin
fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as
Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people,
creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally
grateful and fiercely loyal–loyal to the point of abusing their power
to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the
case of pressuring the State’s top cop (see below).
As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla’s Police Chief because he “intimidated”
her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska’s top
cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure
and she had every legal right to fire him, but it’s pretty clear that
an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn’t
fire her sister’s ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation
for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen
contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she
later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to
replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded
for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew
her support.
She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in
help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town
introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council
became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She
abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn’t
like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.
Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything
publicly about her.
When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got
the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one
of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no
background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great
job which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the
high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the
structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this
Commission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party)
engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which some
undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all
her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and
garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a
gutsy fighter against the “old boys’ club” when she dramatically quit,
exposing this man’s ethics violations (for which he was fined).
As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from
Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel
politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the “bridge to
nowhere” after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.
As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget
guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing
projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative
action restored most of these projects–which had been vetoed simply
because she was not aware of their importance–but with the unobservant
she had gained a reputation as “anti-pork”.
She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party
leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated
them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a
fiscal conservative.
Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah.
They call her “Sarah Barracuda” because of her unbridled ambition and
predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly
stories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made
point guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah’s
mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and
experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.
As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package
of legislation known as “AGIA” that forced the oil companies to march
to the beat of her drum.
Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to
global warming. She campaigned “as a private citizen” against a state
initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from
pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the
state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State’s
lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior’s decision to list polar
bears as threatened species.
McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a
heartbeat away from being President.
There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more
knowledgeable and experienced than she.
However, there’s a lot of people who have underestimated her and are
regretting it.
CLAIM VS FACT
•“Hockey mom”: true for a few years
•“PTA mom”: true years ago when her first-born was in elementary
school, not since
•“NRA supporter”: absolutely true
•social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill
that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships
(said she did this because it was unconsitutional).
•pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to
promote it.
•“Pro-life”: mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby
BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life
legislation
•“Experienced”: Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has
residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska.
No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on
supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city
administrator to run town of about 5,000.
•political maverick: not at all
•gutsy: absolutely!
•open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at
explaining actions.
•has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
•”a Greenie”: no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores
and disconnected parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
•fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
•pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city
without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built
streets to early 20th century standards.
•pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on
residents
•pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city
government in Wasilla’s history.
•pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union
doesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim
that she is pro-labor/pro-union.
WHY AM I WRITING THIS?
First, I have long believed in the importance of being an informed
voter. I am a voter registrar. For 10 years I put on student voting
programs in the schools. If you google my name (Anne Kilkenny +
Alaska), you will find references to my participation in local
government, education, and PTA/parent organizations.
Secondly, I’ve always operated in the belief that “Bad things happen
when good people stay silent”. Few people know as much as I do because
few have gone to as many City Council meetings.
Third, I am just a housewife. I don’t have a job she can bump me out
of. I don’t belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am no
fool; she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this will
cost me somehow in the future: that’s life.
Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100
or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah’s
attempt at censorship.
Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid to
say anything because they were somehow vulnerable.
CAVEATS
I am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase in
spending & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor)
from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City of
Wasilla, and I can’t recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjust
for inflation? for population increases? Right now, it is impossible
for a private person to get any info out of City Hall–they are
swamped. So I can’t verify my numbers.
You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for the
population of Wasilla, ranging from my “about 5,000″, up to 9,000. The
day Palin’s selection was announced a city official told me that the
current population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was
5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to
2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90’s.
Community organizing isn’t easy work, it doesn’t pay well and often yields small results, meaning the person doing the work has to find motivation somewhere other than instant success and change. They have to find motivation in the people they are meeting and truly believe in the grassroots work they are doing. And even if you can’t usually pinpoint it’s success, community organizing is vital to understanding how communities work and what the needs of working people, and low-income people are. And this it seems to me would be an important thing to understand as the President of our country.
I’d like to quote my friend Zontar from what he wrote in the comment section of my other post on Palin:
Zontar at first observed her as a fine speaker. Zontar thought the speech was well crafted. Then half-way she turned into a liar and was giving a hatchet job upon Mr. Obama. Zontar thought that her making fun of Mr. Obama for “community organizing” while she was busy as mayor of Rectum, Alaska was most uncalled for. She uses her power to ban books from the local library she deems offensive, tries to fire her ex-brother-in-law for revenge and raise a slut who obviously didn’t listen to Palin’s lectures on abstinence as the only acceptable method for birth control.
Palin! Mr. Obama could have, upon graduating from Harvard Law gone into any number of lucrative professions. Instead he went into the slums of south Chicago to help the poor, the disenfranchised, the homeless and the starving to try to improve their lives. You call this not accomplishing anything! How dare you, you pious hypocrite.
And for your information Mr. Obama is, had you really listened to his acceptance speech, is very much committed to fighting terrorism, but only in places where are true enemies are, such as Afghanistan, not frittering precious lives in Iraq, a ridiculous war which, if it ended tomorrow would not have accomplished anything.
Nothing.
Mr. Obama did not say he was going to raise taxes. Just on the five percent of the population who have too long gotten a free ride at the expense of the average American.
As they say in Texas, Palin is all hat and no cattle. How come we heard no specifics from her?
What is so very wrong with the neo-cons who listened to both Obama’s and McCain’s speech? What is all this talk about McCain’s speaking “straight talk”? I don’t get it. Obama was, by far, the straightest shooter to date regarding all the speeches we’ve heard during the conventions. How was Obama indirect and McCain and Palin “more” direct? Put the fireworks, packed stadiums, strippers, and flashing lights aside and listen to Obama’s speech. Then critique it. I feel as if the neo-cons cannot see beyond the superficial distractions. And to clear the air on the recent disputes, Obama DID write his own speech.
Yes, we can.
Yes, we can.
Yes, we can.

I choose “Yes, we can”. It’s the change I trust, and it’s not an empty suit.
Disclaimer:This post is all about rumors bases on these outdated “conspiracy theories”, fabricated stories or whatever you want to call them. Here are my opinions, and a couple rhetorical questions.
As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point. Natural selection, the process by which the strongest, the smartest, the fastest, reproduced in greater numbers than the rest, a process which had once favored the noblest traits of man, now began to favor different traits. Most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized and more intelligent. But as time went on, things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction. A dumbing down. How did this happen? Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd, it began to simply reward those who reproduced the most, and left the intelligent to become an endangered species.
Well…. we’ve got a potential VP here who is “pro-life and can shoot”. Anyone notice the irony?
Lies:
Who (Palin’s daughter) is off for 5 months for mono? A week or two max should be expected, but 5 months?
Who is 6 months pregnant at 44 years old and doesn’t show (unless they are fat)? May I see a picture of her looking prego? Not one with these in them, please.
Palin’s water breaks and she proceeds to give a 30 minute speech and then takes an eight hour flight back to Alaska to deliver “her baby”? Defying all laws of science, much? Who did she think she was kidding, anyway?
Who pops out babies and then throws them into someone else’s hands to raise (while they play career woman) and has the audacity to call it their baby? (this applies to all parents) This isn’t a sexist remark. There is one extreme (sexism) and then the other extreme (an irresponsible parent or overboard feminism or Chicks with Dicks). What ever happened to balance? So, to prove one is shaping the way for women and equal rights, you can just hump like rabbits having kid after kid and continue having someone else do the “raising part” because a woman (god forbid) should not be in the home? Must we fight one extreme with another? That is where America has been for years: in an extreme rebellious state. And if the US is going down the tubes, this is one of the most damaging reasons. The family structure has broken down.
And I’m sick of hearing about “her daughter” with “Down Syndrome”. “Her daughter” doesn’t have “Down Syndrome”. She’s just another Republican, is all.
And no! I do not sympathize or admire one for having 5 children. It’s easy to get laid. It’s hard to raise a child. Have children and be an active responsible parent and then you just may impress me. And why must we all get down on our knees just because one has a Down Syndrome child? What a painful journey for ANY parent, but for the love of all that is holy, that does not make one MORE capable to take the White House should McCain croak (the guy’s only had cancer four times and additional extreme conditions)!
Fast forward to the present:
In all “fairness”, “the truth” has come out. But what explains all the lies beforehand? If she was “so proud” as she claimed to be in the above article, then why oh why had she not announced it saying, “my daughter is prego lego and just wow… I’m funna be a granny”! She really IS proud, right? Since God says that birth control is bad, I can see why she’s so proud. I wonder who daughter Palin is going to appoint the position of raising her child? Someone will have to bear the brunt. But wait. She chose life, so everything else is minutiae, right? Hmm…
More Opinions:
I’m also glad that Palin’s a good aim when she’s out there hunting, though. Hooray! The Right is having a field day over this news. At least we know she won’t be drawing blood from any lawyers out there.
Oh, this is all just so petty, anyway, right? It is none of my business just like John Edwards’ affair, Slick Willy’s killing spree, Obama’s lies, and what have you? What politician doesn’t have blood on their hands, anyway?
Leave the children alone?
What children? A 17 year old decided to make an ADULT choice by having unprotected sex and deciding to become a “mother”. If you are mature enough to make adult choices, than you are mature enough to be a symbol of the neo-con version of “abstinence”. And naturally, they are going to keep the baby. Sarah is and has been a politician for years. They don’t have a choice as to what to do with the baby as other Americans do. I’m still not impressed. The media is telling me that I am to feel compassion for them. That is sickening and only encouraging more people out there to be irresponsible and careless. But you are right. This has nothing to do with whether or not Palin will make a good Vice President.
In any event, I am guessing Palin is a “woman” who feels an obsessive/compulsive need to prove herself. We all know that if you don’t hunt, it is hard to get on the Republican ticket, so Palin makes the case for that. But she takes it to a further extreme and shoots wolves, bears, and moose from the air. Call me a hypocrite, though. I DO eat meat, fish, and lots of things with faces. But to get joy out of shooting random animals and watching them bleed for the sake of feeling accomplished and “an equal to men” is not something that I particularly find respect-worthy or impressive especially coming from a god-fearing and self-proclaimed “caring Christian”. We expect more from these people than their dirty atheist counterparts, anyway.
I don’t like Palin’s ideals (not writing about them all here), so count me in on the smear campaign. There is not one thing I like about this woman and her politics. These are my political beliefs, so you can probably see why. And Palin wants to teach creationism in PUBLIC schools??? Whatever happened to not teaching either creationism or evolution and letting kids decide for themselves if they want to be god-fearing or not? Where does critical thinking enter the picture? And this is public school we’re talking about – not a private Catholic school or a protestant school where there are 5 kids per class and one of the kid’s parents is the teacher.
Putting organized religion aside, why do any belief systems have to be shoved down anyone’s throat? Schools shouldn’t be religious or political. It should be revolved around EDUCATING and teaching people to THINK FOR THEMSELVES. It shouldn’t be about opinions. It should be about facts. Opinions should be properly noted as opinions. If any “ideals” are brought up, the teachers should take a NEUTRAL position. Shell out the facts and let kids decide for themselves. This has nothing to do with conservatism or liberalism. It is not political. This is common sense.
There’s not anything I like about Bush either – except that he does have a sense of humor, a nice smile sometimes, and has done some things right. Bush and McCain <—(our former Democrat) are just happy little misguided retards whereas Palin is just downright intentional and mean.
I think Mitt Romney would have been the better choice.
If McCain/Palin win this upcoming election, we will be even further on our way to “Idiocracy”. Seriously, watch this movie. I ask you only this favor. The below is only a modified trailer.
Note to all the noisy feminists out there: If you have to go out of your way PROVE you’re an EQUAL to men, then you’ve already lost. You remind me of “men” who are still trying to prove that they are girls men.
Hello all, and welcome!
In my blog, I discuss Americanophobia, politics, political extremism (my rantings about the extreme right and the extreme left), anthropology, crime news, psychology, LOTS of humor, and try to debunk common rumors spread about the American people. “There is a big difference between being anti-American and being critical of the United States….critiques are appropriate and necessary, provided that they rest on facts and address real abuses, real errors and real excesses–without deliberately losing sight of America’s wise decisions, beneficient interventions and salutary policies. But critiques of this kind–balanced, fair and well-rounded–are hard to find, except in America herself…” — Jean-Francois Revel
"The fundamental role of anti-Americanism in Europe in general, and particularly among those on the Left, is to absolve themselves of their own moral failings and intellectual errors by heaping them onto the monster scapegoat, the United States of America. The U.S. is charged with all the evils, real or imagined, that afflict humanity, from the falling price of beef in France to AIDS in Africa and global warming everywhere. The result is a widespread refusal to accept responsibility for one's own actions." — Jean-Francois Revel
"Anti-Americanism is hypocrisy at its finest, You can spend your evening catching the latest episode of "24" and then complain about Guantanamo the next morning." --the Berlin bureau chief of Der Spiegel
"Of course some Americans are stupid, but... "It all boils down to the fact that knowledge and intelligence are two different issues. Rote memorization of world capitals does not equate intelligence.
I do find it interesting that Canadians and Europeans have such strong opinions on this, considering that there are many more pressing issues to be concerned about. Perhaps the steady Canadian and European refrain of "Americans are stupid" is a reflection of their own deep-rooted insecurity. You know -- an inferiority complex." --Mohammed
"As an American, please allow me to begin by asserting that our nation has had its strengths and its weaknesses, its successes and its failures, and its justices and injustices throughout history and continuing into the present. Although I sense much patriotism for my homeland, I recognize our need for humility to understand that our country is not above questioning or reproach but is rather under the same standards as all other nations of the world. I would simply like to ask those who view our country from afar to maintain a balanced perspective and realize too that there exists good and bad in America, both in terms of its domestic society and politics as well as in its relations with other nations.
Whilst there may be growing anti-Americanism in the United Kingdom I do not believe such sentiment to be reciprocated on our side of the Atlantic. I viewed a recent survey that indicated most Americans view England positively, and never have I seen the flag of your country (or any other foreign land, for that matter) burned in the streets of our cities. Clearly we as American citizens have not meant to be your enemies." --Seth
"As someone who takes human rights seriously, I'm appalled by the lack of sympathy the left feels toward the victims of any regime other than the Bush administration. Let's shout it to prisoners everywhere: If you're not harmed by an American, your suffering doesn't count." --Erik Svane
"Ambivalence, antipathy, and resentment toward and about the United States have comprised an important component of European culture since the American Revolution at the latest, thus way before America became the world's 'Mr. Big' -- the proverbial eight-hundred-pound gorilla -- and a credible rival to Europe's main powers, particularly Britain and France . . . . While the politics, style, and discourse of the Bush administration -- and of George W. Bush as a person -- have undoubtedly exacerbated anti-American sentiment among Europeans and fostered a heretofore unmatched degree of unity between elite and mass opinion in Europe, they are not anti-Americanism's cause. Indeed, a change to a center-left administration in Washington, led by a Democratic president, would not bring about its abatement, let alone disappearance." --Andrei S. Markovits (author of Uncouth Nation - Why Europe Dislikes America)
"Is Euro Disney Land a threat to the French Culture? If French culture can be squashed by Mickey Mouse, or more exactly by simply moving Mickey geographically, it would have to be disturbingly fragile." Moreover, Revel argued, culture always circulates and, in the case of Euro Disneyland, California was merely repackaging for Europeans such European stories as Cinderella and Pinocchio. According to Revel, French culture was not being colonized and if any culture was in crisis, he contended, it was that of America with its fad for political correctness and other forms of "neoprovincialism." --Jean-François Revel
"Anti-Americanism is the only face of xenophobia still broadly accepted in Europe." --Mary Fitzgerald (New Statesman)
"Americans find themselves damned either way. If they remain within their own borders, they are isolationist hicks who are shirking their responsibilities. If they intervene, they are rapacious imperialists." --To hate America is to hate mankind
"The British find it very difficult to come to terms with the loss of their global dominance. We felt a deep sense of hurt and loss. We used to run the world, and we don’t anymore. So, in order to palliate that insecurity, we tend to run ourselves down too much. And we’re also snooty about the people who DO run the world." -- Boris Johnson (Member of Parliament)
"It is tragic that Anti-American ideas are so easily passed through rumour, while reconciliatory ideas and notions must be backed up with catalogues of evidence before they are even considered, purely because of the fact that it is so much easier to hate than to keep an objective open mind." --David Hatton
"Other common anti-American objections are ignorance and stupidity. In dealing with these two, I have no reason to suspect that the average American is any less intelligent than the average person from anywhere else. One trait I have noticed is that other cultures are generally much more ashamed of any deficit in the intellect of the individual, especially ours (the British), and as such will make a much greater attempt to hide it. If all cultures bar one are scared of looking stupid and take action to prevent that happening, then that one remaining culture is inevitably going to be lumbered with that image." --David Hatton
"We became not a melting pot, but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams." --Jimmy Carter
"Most of the anti-Americanism these days stems from plain old nationalistic jealousy by a lot of countries that are born of insecurity about their own place in the world and their painful self awareness of their own failings and shortcomings...like the kids in the next block who are jealous of the boy who has a better bicycle or a newer fancier skateboard....phuque 'em all." --Robbins Mitchell
"Europeans, like the rest of the world, hate America and Americans, but love our aid when in distress, and our soldiers to die for THEIR COUNTRIES. You need to work, live and pay taxes from this side of the Atlantic to understand our vision of Europe and the rest of the world." --Jerry
"Unjustified hatred of Americans:
There is much unjustified hatred in the world. There is unjustified hatred of the USA. Much of this arises from the victimisation complex that sweeps much of mankind. Whoever is in charge, whoever is powerful or successful will also be hated. This immature hatred often evaporates quickly with a little reason or thought. There are some some invalid, unjustified criticisms. The most widespread hate is the hate by people the world over who fall victim to their own shortcomings, and want a scapegoat." --Vexen Crabtree
"USA citizens are not given world news in the same way as most the other developed nations, and may well be genuinely unaware that much of the world is as poor as it is. European news is highly world-centric, whereas due to its size most USA news does not have enough time to cover news in all neighbouring states, let alone news from around the world. " --Vexen Crabtree
"Despite the USA's dominance of mass media, it is frequently only the pro-USA, self-congratulatory messages that seem to arrive in Europe, the USA citizens criticism and disbelief of their own government is not apparent, which gives the overall impression that Americans are either gullible, ignorant or honestly uncaring." --Vexen Crabtree
"If a person outside of American culture is a hateful person, they may actively hate and verbally attack America. If the person takes this to include a hatred of Americans themselves, they are inconsiderate and have become a fool. If a person like this is brought up by people with vested interests in attacking America (and there are many), a person can be driven to take his opinions to a violent level. Generic hatred is not solved or soothed by adding more layers of hatred.
There is a belief and hope that if enough nations oppose America, the American people will realize what their government has been doing and will overthrow them. This hope is misguided, as anti-American actions are causing the opposite"--Vexen Crabtree
"I think it is best, when faced with people from other nations, to treat them as individuals. Yes, you can "hate" the injustices that governments perpetuate on us all, and yes, you can despise ignorance in all its' forms. But any sort of blanket prejudice punishes yourself more than anyone else, because it thwarts the opportunity to learn from someone else. It stops you from making potential connections that could ultimately change your life. As an "american" living abroad, I pity my fellow countrymen who still have the wool over their eyes, but I don't hate them. The fact that when I meet them, they are indeed traveling at the time, says to me that they are in the process of opening their minds. Being in Europe, for many Americans, is the first step to realizing that other cultures do indeed exist and thrive, and that other forms of social structures are both possible and desireable.
-----------------
Many ask me why I left. Political reasons aside, when I mention that my family now enjoys free health-care and that my daughter will have the opportunity to go to university virtually for free (O.K. not free exactly, because we all pay taxes, but these services are included in what we as citizens receive for our tax dollars here in Europe,) they always respond with a sigh as they realize that this is the way all societies should be run. They know that something has gone terribly afoul in their beloved "homeland."
--------------
Americans, in essence, need to be re-taught what is possible in the world, they do not need to be shunned. Shunning them will only help to produce more negativity in the world. If we all, from without, can help them to change what is wrong with their country from within, by sharing our knowledge of alternatives, then the whole world will benefit." --Lily
"Sometimes the caliber of a nation is found not in why it is liked, but rather in why it is not." --Victor Davis Hanson
"Everyone is in favor of free speech. Hardly a day passes without its being extolled, but some people's idea of it is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone says anything back, that is an outrage." --Winston Churchill
"With a military that has become a laughing stock and her increasing irrelevance in the world around her, I believe that the Canada I know and loved is gone. The sad truth is, Canadians have only themselves to blame since they meekly chose to accept everything without question and without fighting back. Most of them even pat themselves on the back for being so “progressive” and “multicultural” and “diverse,” while failing to recognize that all of those things will bring about Canada’s demise. America may not be perfect, but at least there is a strong conservative movement and a population who will fight to keep their rights." --Jayne Gardener (Why I left Canada)
"Regarding Race Relations in the South:
I once read an observation that ONE (and there are many) of the differences between the Northern and Southern approach to race is that the North tends to reject the Individual while embracing the Race. The South conversely seems to have prejudice towards the other Race while embracing the Individuals. It's a generalization to be sure but one with more than a grain of truth.
Blacks and Whites have always lived closely in the South, most southerners have an aquantince of another race whom they like, while at the same time generalizing about the 'others'.
The North has always been more segregated and less mixed in ordinary commerce and interaction. They accept the race but interact with few individuals of another group. Leading to less real experience with the other group. Fewer Northerners subsequently have friends of a different race.
I think we a need to be cautious when making these generalizations but I believe they still offer food for comment.
I guess I'm just saying that one shouldn't assume the South has a less open society because of some who have lingering, isolated, racist attitudes towards 'Canadians'. It just seems that these notions, are more exposed, and carry more gravity due to their past. --JG (reply #70)
"My “two cents” to all you Americans out there: speaking as a Brit, it pains me to see some of the comments emanating from this page by alleged British sophisticates. Much of the real reason for anti-Americanism of this type — though it will be hotly denied — is nothing more than envy. Truth be told, many an Englishman yearns for the day when we were the number one dog in town, with the world sitting obediently at the feet of hordes of short-back-and sides public school boys lording it over primitive tribes of Africans and Asians, whilst men such as Joseph Chamberlain and Winston Churchill sincerely speculated on the chances of the USA being welcomed back into the imperial bosom.
Americans, don't lose heart; you are the great power of the age. It is your lot to be envied and feared. Do not fall for the soft hearted illusion that this translates into moral superiority of any variety." --James
"It is sick that to be Canadian one must hate other people. I've been to US hundreds of times and England as well and they never equate their nationality with hatred of others. It seems we are a nation of people that are in serious need of therapy. Thank god I enjoy visiting other countries and felt no need to hate or denigrate others. When ever I go to United States or England I always leave the Canadian stuff at home and I get along just fine. I would recommend this for others." --Nov. 12th, 2005 5:08PM
"The only thing more annoying that a 'typical American' (and they do exist!) is a Canadian with a superiority complex! Americans do get the piss ripped out of them behind their backs but with the flag on your pack you probably will as well." --travoholic
"I grew up on army bases my whole life and nothing makes me prouder than watching Canadian soldiers do what they can, when they can, to help out more impoverished nations. I do, however, become angered at people who begin talking about who has the better, or bigger army and who can beat whom. Soldiers sacrifice their lives for the betterment of mankind, not to win pissing contests." --Mon Dec 13, 2004 5:12 pm
"I attribute European anti-Americanism to a state of prolonged “adolescence” from being protected by American treasure and military might throughout the post-WW2 era. I think about how teenagers rail against their parents actions and restrictions, all the while knowing, deep down, that they cannot provide for themselves.
On a somewhat lighter note, there was a program on PBS (Public Broadcasting System) a while back about why Europeans don’t like America. One interviewee attributed it to the Europeans knowing that America won’t hurt them." --Denis Eugene Sullivan
"In spite of the constant accusations of “arrogance,” Americans are really very self-deprecating in many ways and often place the French, and other Western Europeans, on a pedestal of cultural superiority; this probably goes further back into world history than virulent anti-Americanism does." --Jennifer
"Yes, anti-Americanism is a sad reality all over the world. I feel its simply part of "hatred of the superpower". Britian for most of its empire's history was mocked harshly by English speaking colonies and much of mainland Europe. Nobody likes the "big kid on the block". I think the fact that American media plays a more dominant role in English speaking societies around the world further reminds us of our inferiority complexes.
