No Red America, No Blue America, Just One America

“I am a conservative who spent one evening responding to posts on your blog. I mentioned then that I would support Obama if he won, even though I was supporting McCain’s campaign. I feel it was my duty to send my congratulations to our next president through you and your community, since I used your forum to enter into a spirited debate. I will honor my pledge to respect Obama as our American president. I certainly intend to exercise my first amendment rights to try to persuade him and others away from policies that I oppose, but I will be respectful of him and his office. I will also reprimand others who fail to show such respect.

I do not plan to return to this site, as I got so engaged in the vigorous debate that I lost track of time, and I missed saying prayers with my kids and tucking them in that night. We have added our new president to our prayer list. I assure you, we are not praying from a sense of self-interest. We only pray that he be granted the wisdom that is necessary to successfully execute his duties in a way that leads our country to greater peace and prosperity.

I believe it is un-American to wish ill upon anyone in order to gain some advantage. I want America to reach her greatest potential; therefore, I want Obama’s presidency to be the most successful in history — until the next president is elected, whichever party that person might represent, then the next president, and so on.

Who knows — perhaps I’ll end up voting for Obama in 2012. I will remain open to that possibility.

Please share this message with your community.”

This is an email that was sent to the blog, “CrooksandLiars”. You don’t see balanced speech like this often, so I was compelled to share this.

And this.

Here’s a snippet from Nancy over at Conservative Insights:

First let me start off by saying congratulations to the Democrats, after a hard fought race you have come out on top and finally have your chance to lead. Let me also say that though I admittedly disagree with Barack Obama’s policies and ideology, I wish our new President Elect nothing but the best. I am an American before I am a member of a party and for the sake of all of us hope that Barack Obama makes the right decisions for our Country. I know many of you are very upset today, but let me remind you of something, there is an opportunity to be had in an Obama victory. This victory gives conservatives a chance for a fresh start and allows us to rebuild our party bigger and stronger.

See? No name-calling, no hoping that Obama will be assassinated, no hoping that his supporters should be killed, and no trying to punish Obama supporters. These kind of people are not the radicals I often speak of in my blog. These are true conservatives that see ONE AMERICA – not two.

“The Far Left and the Far Right have a lot more in common than they think”, says the Bastard from the United American Party:

Your all blithering idiots! Sorry I had to be that blunt but I spent the morning cruising from blog to blog and seemed to keep stumbling upon these sites that just, quite simply, had nothing to say. It seems like they spend all their time and energy spinning hate and disgust for the other side. Instead of spending time trying to come up with one constructive thought about whats going on in the world they regurgitate what they just read on their favorite editorial site and then proceed to bash the opposite side for not seeing it their way.

I find it hard to believe that someone could actually believe their side is 100% right. Instead of bashing the other side maybe, and sit down when you read this, you might spend your time actually thinking of ways to better the political party you so staunchly protect, hold your leaders accountable for the promises they make and break, both parties have them.

No side is worse then the other because collectively they wouldn’t be able to come up with one original thought to better themselves or mankind. Rather, they seem quite content with being pigeon holed in their own private hells.

Well, for any of you that this post might address I leave you with one thing to read, HAS FREETHOUGHT A CONSTRUCTIVE SIDE?, courtesy of the one blog, No Religion Now, that actually got me to think today and delivered me to writing this post.

I am subscribed to WordPress Political Blogs in my Google Reader. Most of the blogs I find there are “conservative”. Reasonable debates with the far Right is a challenge. Only very few can manage a back-n-forth disagreement without resorting to putting words in my mouth or insulting my person. The Red Pill from Cadillactight is one conservative blogger that is an AWESOME debater. But these types of civilized debates are becoming extinct through the “Us versus Them” mentality and divisive politics that the Far Right has successfully established in this country. And sometimes I wonder if it is because they are still bitter about their loss in the Civil War. That bitterness must have been taught from one generation to the next. Well, that’s one of my zany liberal conspiracy theories, so I probably have no idea what I am talking about. :)

Additionally, if you do a lot of reading, you’ll notice that when the Right tries to sell buttons or T-shirts, a lot of their stuff reads, “Piss off a Liberal, but a Sarah Palin 2012 pin” or “Piss off a Liberal, buy a gun” or “Piss off a Liberal, work hard a be happy” and the list goes on. They act like hormonal teenagers stuck in angst-mode. They just don’t sound like the happy-go-lucky people that they incessantly brag to be.

In any event, Nonny Mouse, from “CrooksandLiars” writes…

And I’m not the only liberal to miss spirited debate with those conservatives still valiantly defending the reality based community, such as Gergen, Powell, Christopher Buckley and the like.

‘There was a time when conservatives were, in my opinion, wrong about everything, but you could interpret facts differently from them and be right without necessarily dismissing them as insane. I really hope we can get back to that kind of honest debate. It was intoxicating.’

Dissent is not divisive. Dissent is not Anti-American. It’s called being a member of the free world. But some extremists from the Right like Ms Governor Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann prefer America to be separated into two different countries.

Yes. The very height of Elitism.

Just when we thought that Elitism was the word to describe the Left.
