How Much Power Does a President Have? (The “McChange” Campaign)

In Election 2008, Humor, War and Politics, Wordpress Political Blogs on September 9, 2008 at 4:41 PM

I fell upon this paragraph in the blogosphere today.

Mitt Romney said it best in his speech at the Republican National Convention. Washington is broke. The U.S. Government has been under the control of Obama-style liberal elitists continually since the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt 75 years ago. It’s not that Democrats have always controlled the Presidency or Congress, but liberals have always been the vast majority of bureaucrats. This liberal majority has led the U.S. downhill to the point where mothers can no longer afford to stay home and raise their children properly, as they could easily do 75 years ago.

We’ve had Reagan, Bush 1 Sr. and then Bush II Jr. Let’s just cover those three for now. That is 20 years of having a Republican President and Vice President in office. Never in my life had I ever seen people as enthusiastic and defensive over a President as George W Bush Jr. And even Bush’s support abroad, (and it does exist) is FIERCE and unapproachable.

Oh, the conservatives DID complain about Bush every once in a while but mostly due to the Illegal Immigration problem in the US. Other than that, I’ve rarely heard a peep out of the Republicans.

BUT… now,… Washington is “broke”? 8O

Do we really have a liberal majority? These people may not agree.

Look at all the Republican Presidents and Vice Presidents in office in rewind-mode. What do you think that Palin is going to do that Republicans in History haven’t? How will she nuke those liberal bureaucrats? And why have all the“true Republican Conservatives” been sitting there watching our Washington “break” since you were born?

Oh.. and Bush said “change” was needed back in 2004. Oh, yes he did. And that is what is so ironic.

If you don’t have the time to watch the entire video above, please start watching at 4:20 to see the ridiculousness in all this.

And what about those lobbyists, anyway?

In any event, I am fully aware that the Dems lie. But what about the Republicans? Are they as clean as a whistle as they are thought to be by their supporters? And, once again, how much power does a president have?

  1. Greetings Earthlings!

Zontar, impartial and all knowing, all mighty observer of the current “United” States presidential election is aghast at the present state of affairs. Zontar is sore afraid that the Republican (from the Greek word meaning brain dead, reactionary, bigoted, born again cretin) party will win. Why? Is it due to the convincing and strong arguments emanating from the mind of Mr. McCain? I think not. Only after he chose Sarah did his poll numbers shoot up. Why? Because she is the one who is coming up with original wisdom and insight that will rescue America from its doldrums? Zontar thinketh not. Zontar observes that everything she says is the same dull, overused, logic defying bromides all the neocons have been regurgitating for decade upon decade. It is simply because men like the fact that she has a vagina and that they would like to engage in sexual intercourse with this witch of Endor.

Zontar has also observed that being an unqualified, mean spirited, sarcastic vice presidential candidate is kind of like being a filthy, book-banning, power hungry, innocent-trooper-firing, hypocritical adulteress who covered up the fact that her daughter is really the mother of her latest baby and tried to cover it up by saying she is the mother even though her water broke in Dallas and she went on to give a speech and took a very long flight home with a connection in Seattle then drove to a hospital in Podunk which is another 30 minute drive thus endangering the life of her child even more, then forcing said daughter to be wed to a Neanderthal when neither of them wants to be married simply to satisfy the Conservative powers that be when the father of her child is most likely her father: only an unqualified, mean spirited, sarcastic vice presidential candidate has actual responsibilities.

    Hail Zontar!

  2. Thanks to Zontar for pointing out most of Sarah ‘Leona Helmsley’ Palin’s failings. I’ve been predicting a McBush victory for months as those around me mocked my judgement. As this post tells us, presidents don’t have any power, but those around them surely do. Karl Rove in particular seems to have an evil genius when it comes to manipulating the minds of Americans. We’ve had the ‘luxury’ for the past 8 years of many of us understanding the difference between hating Bush and the country, I’m afraid that four more years of McBush would cause a dramatic increase in the need for this blog as we begin to question the difference.

  3. Let’s not even BEGIN to mention that Bill Clinton balanced the budget while Bush Jr went on a shopping spree.

And why do these politicians keep bringing up the past? It’s like these people WANT us to go back in time. Well that’s not happening. People can’t live like they did 75 years ago because the world has changed, not because there are liberals in politics. But, people will believe anything these days…

  4. Love the Daily Show clip (I haven’t seen the show in a while).

I don’t know if we both read the Romney comment the same. I didn’t see his speech, but the quote was that “Washington is broke,” which I took to mean without much money, rather than “broken,” as in not working properly.

I think it’s probably broken, but not beyond repair.

I, too, lament the balanced budget of the Clinton years. The GOP seems to forget that Reagan racked up a record-breaking deficit, only to be outdone by George W.

If it is broke, which I really doubt, it’s not because of liberals. It’s the fault of these costly, ineffective wars we’ve been waging on the Middle East.

On the subject of how much power a president has: I think it depends on whether the president is Republican or Democrat. The Republicans seem to want more power (line item veto, “emergency” war declarations) than is afforded them under the Constitution. Not so much the Dems (unless I missed something).

  5. I know we’ve had our differences, but I thought I would pass on this link to you. Do with them what you please.

  6. Thank you, Troy. I really appreciate that.
