And Western Canada…

Alberta especially seems to have nurtured a hatred for Maritimers and sometimes Newfoundlanders…they think we are mooches.

The Maritimes had a vibrant culture AND economy before we joined Confederation but our railways and trade routes to New England states were ripped up to develop Quebec and Ontario.

We still have a vibrant culture, we are good people and yes Virginia there is such a thing as a working Maritimer. Alot of us go to Alberta only to be spit on for taking their jobs and polluting their province with our evil socialistic ways. If we stay home (and yes most of the Maritimers at home do work) we are accused of leaching off of employment insurance programs. Again, nice country.

Pure Canada all right. I’m from the Maritimes and I find that offensive. The first two provinces in Canadian Confederation were New Brunswick and Nova Scotia with PEI joining later in 1871. And weren’t alot of the Confederation meetings held in, umm, Charlottetown. Thanks to an American for pointing that out. It seems an American knows where the Maritimes are. Shame on you Canada.

Yes, I’m just realizing this about the French despite hearsay. I’m starting to read French blogs and looking into them a bit deeper. I have limited experience with French people. Also their presence on internet social networking sites are very slim. I’ve never even seen them anywhere bashing Americans except for the documentaries I’ve come across.

Also, I’ve heard it mentioned before about, “If we don’t have culture, then why are people complaining about ‘Ameircanization’?” You have a point there. But if you ask an Anti-American, they’ll just say (and I’ve heard it before) that, “your culture sucks!”. But they will say this while wearing a pair of jeans, listening to their tunes on an iPod, eating our food, and logging into a Microsoft operating system everyday to add another friend on Facebook!! So, this is why I believe that Anti-Americanism in itself (others have pointed this out as well) is hypocritical.

I’d be interested in your opinion about that: how can “non-culture” dominate the world’s culture? There’s a big paradox here. How can people make fun of Americans’ lack of culture, and on the other hand, complain about the overwhelming American culture in their country? I think that when Europeans are making fun at Americans’ “ignorance”, they’re making fun of themselves watching Hollywood movies and singing rock’n roll!
