Can Americans be Anti-American?
You betcha!
A teenager expresses her feelings about the USA, and she’s VERY angry.
In the following video, the same pessimistic teenager goes on to explain more of her real problems with America:
She grew up in a racist neighborhood and was raised by a racist family with a lot of domestic violence and drug addicts. And it’s supposed to be “America’s fault”? This isn’t really all too different from those people living outside the US that are Anti-American as when a problem in their country arises - even the most petty of problems in their personal lives, it’s always, “America’s fault“. Because it’s the easy way out of taking responsibility and making necessary changes for a better life. A woman named, Bridget, made a good point in her blog:
I get really tired of America-haters. I especially dislike American citizens who hate this country. I honestly believe they are ungrateful, spoiled brats! They have so much and yet they complain. They have something millions of other people would love to have and they aren’t thankful for it.
I liken it to a really rich person who has almost everything, griping that their life is not better. Let’s suppose Paris Hilton griped about all the things she doesn’t have or doesn’t get - we would all roll our eyes and say “Give me a break. She doesn’t realize how lucky she is”, and we would be correct.
It’s a proverbial “biting the hand that feeds you” syndrome, and I’m just as critical of these Americans as I am those living outside the US. It’s not America’s fault that ADULTS decided to become druggies, commit sex crimes, decided to hate black people and abuse her. If I go out and choose at my own free will to rob a liquor store, I think that the way I was brought up should be more in question as opposed to America making me do it. Maybe it’s just her age, but I think she’s being a bit cowardly not facing the problems that she has with her parents straight-up. Although very sad what she’s going through, it’s always easier to point blame in every direction but the one that will cause the most pain and upset. This is exactly why women blame the “the other woman” as opposed to their husbands that DECIDE to cheat. It all boils down to people’s inability to face their own problems.
There ARE ways to get out of a bad situation, and I wonder if she’s ever lifted a finger to do something for herself to make her OWN life better? Personal responsibility…. anybody? Even in the event that this girl is powerless or has tried to correct her problems in some way, it’s still not America’s fault. What’s to say for those that didn’t grow up around such abuse in America? What to say then? “Thank you, America”? My guess is that the civilly raised children will grow up to be thankful toward their parents… not the country.
Let me just say that I complain about the US as well. You can see many of my rants in my “War and Politics” section (about 50+ political rants). I’ve also ran into my fair share of idiots in this country too. Part of being a Patriot is questing the government if needed, in my opinion. Most Anti-Americans will tell you that Patriotism is defined as unconditionally accepting the president and every crooked thing that a government may do. But I beg to differ. Patriotism for me is being proud of where you come from and being loyal to your country along WITH utilizing the right to free-speech (good or bad) that our ancestors died to give us. If we don’t use free-speech, then they died for NOTHING.
Anti-American Americans wouldn’t be happy in another country either, as they’d have to face Anti-Americanism over there, and Anti-Americanism is about defining the whole rather than the individual. Well, she is very pretty, and she’s not fat, so maybe they wouldn’t give her too hard a time.
There’s one more point that Bridget made in her blog that I find very important:
Don’t you find it interesting that other countries are compared to America to measure their success, yet America is compared to perfection and Utopia. That’s not fair to us and it will always put us in a no-win situation. Instead of people looking at America and saying, “Why can’t they get their healthcare system fixed? It’s obvious they don’t care about people”, they should look at the rest of the world and say, “Wow, America’s system is not perfect, but it’s certainly better than any other system in the world.” That can be seen by how many people from other countries come to America for medical help. Their system isn’t working or the wait is too long, but they can come here and get help right away, so they do.
Another proud American shares his story here, and I find it to be a good read.
The Lonely Sandpiper shares his views on Anti-American Americans. I highly recommend it.
To conclude, the young lady in that video isn’t the only one who is Anti-American that is American-born. There’s more where that came from! And even more here. I couldn’t even begin to cover all the Anti-American Americans out there. I call them not “Liberals”, but “Liberal Extremists” or “Leftists”. In any event, Anti-Americanism comes in all shapes, sizes, flavors, and nations - even if you were born right here in America.

Personal responsibility anyone in the USA can live the dream. The people that don’t need someone to blame!!
