When a man’s masculinity is threatened, watch him turn into Macho Man.
In a Cornell University study, men who perceived their masculinity to be maligned displayed more homophobic attitudes, tended to support the Iraq war more and would be more willing to purchase an SUV over another type of vehicle. In other words, men overcompensate when they feel their masculinity is threatened.
“Masculine overcompensation is the idea that men who are insecure about their masculinity will behave in an extremely masculine way as compensation,” explained study leader Robb Willer in a news release announcing the study findings.
Bottom Line: If ya gotta prove it, ya ain’t got it.

very good jaded …are you sure it is his beard and not yours LOL just teasing ??? Others have given me a difficult time throughout my life for being more androgynous than anything.Apparently it confuses men on their roles as they interact with me. It is in this transaction that I see how ‘weak’ a man is in that they DO in fact overcompensate..which is a huge turn-off for me….I like men who are as near androgynous as I am….and intelliegnce is a must or bust ( not a bust on him LOLOL).
Yup. Anytime I see any overcompensating going on, I see red flags.
Going one step further, I see any kind of overcompensating as COG (consciousness of guilt).
sadly, I do not relize until too late that I was the receiving end of the over compensation…but I like men who are not afraid of their girly side….it is so refreshing.Because I have a few gay pals it does make it harder for me to accept the machismo of hetero men as they seem all the more uptight LOL
